White tekkies: Dress it up or you can dress it down
A white tekkie is deemed a classic in the fashion world and its versatility means it can be dressed up or down.
POLOKWANE – Stylist and boutique owner, Bruce Nobela says there are many brands and styles of white tekkies that it is hard to pick just one favourite to buy or wear.
“I have purchased several pairs of white tekkies over the years and I know that you can dress them up with almost any clothing item in your closet. You should, however, be careful of the type of outfit because maintaining a classic and stylish incorporation of the tekkie, can be tricky at times,” he said.
Bruce says white tekkies can go well with any colour jeans, as long as the colour is not too prominent.
“Add that with a zipper jacket that is white or neutral in colour, with a matching belt and you are good to go. You can also throw in a cap, hat or beanie to accompany it,” he said.
Bruce says tekkies in general, lend a particular youthfulness to certain looks.
“A great tekkie can also be worn with formal clothes, injecting an unexpected twist to simplistic and basic silhouettes. This kind of look is fresh and edgy, but only when it’s done right as with most trends. It can also look careless and unpolished when done wrong, so just make sure that the suit matches (the blazer and pants) so that the white tekkies stand out,” he said.
“The combination of white tekkies and a suit for men and women works, it’s basically teaming up one classic with another. Make sure that you keep your white tekkies squeaky clean so that you look neat, tidy and still looking formal. This kind of look adds to the casual yet classy finished product,” he said.
He adds that when wearing white tekkies, one can also keep it simple with shades of white and brown or even top it up with neon colours to complement the white tekkies. “One thing I love about tekkies regardless of the colour you’re wearing is that when you have many occasions to go to, they keep you comfortable while looking stylish,” Bruce said. “Remember that you’ll never go wrong with a stylish outfit paired with white tekkies. Looks are everything because first impressions last.”
