1 dead, 2 survive collision on D3715

One person died and two were injured after a driver lost control over the vehicle he was driving and collided with an electric pole on the D3715 road near Tshiozwi on 15 May.

LIMPOPO – An eyewitness, Dalas Mukwevho, told CV he rushed to the scene after he heard a loud crash.

Traffic came to a halt for 30 minutes, while officials cleared the road.

The driver lost control of his vehicle and hit an electricity pole, which fell on top of the car.

One of the ambulances that arrived at the accident scene, was hit from behind by an oncoming vehicle, but no-one was injured in this collision.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the police were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.

The Road of Death, as the road between Sinthumule and Kutama has been dubbed, has claimed several lives since October 2019.

Communities have been complaining about the state of the road, with its dangerous potholes and stray animals for a long time.

Re-construction of the road started three months ago, yet in the past two months, seven more accidents occurred between the D959 and the D3715 road, killing four and injuring 16 people.

The Chairperson of the Zoutpansberg Development Forum, Patrick Sikhutshi, again warned motorists who use the Sinthumule and Kutama road not to drink and drive and to be responsible drivers.

He said that drivers must always drive with extreme caution as these roads were dangerous.

“Let us rather pull over and rest if we feel tired and arrive safely at our destinations, without putting others’ lives in danger” he said.
