A total of R200 000 was donated towards the Premier Bursary Trust Fund following the staging of the second leg of the Limpopo Golf Championships in collaboration with Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) and Sunshine Tour recently.
Limpopo Premier, Chupu Mathabatha said he is pleased and encouraged to receive the much-needed and highly appreciated donation.
“The money will be used sparingly, wisely and most of all, it is going to benefit deserving students. Since its inception in 2002 to date, we are pleased to announce that 328 learners have been supported through the fund. The greatest joy is that our focus has mainly been on supporting students from disadvantage backgrounds. We fund students who are orphans or from child-headed households, student with unemployed parents and people with disabilities. We will be honouring our late icon former President, Nelson Mandela and his generation. Mandela and his generation of selfless, peace-loving and humbled servants of the people, taught us to be people-centred leaders, a leadership that puts the need of the previously marginalised majority first,” said Mathabatha.
He said the fund is proud to contribute towards the milestone. “We are indeed grateful for the donation and to the Board of Trustees of the Premier’s Bursary Trust Fund. These is indeed a group comprising selfless, highly committed and genuine patriotic individuals. We applaud them for finding time in their schedules to mobilise resources for the bursary trust fund. We are elated to announce that from today, 17 November, the Premier’s Bursary Trust Fund has opened applications for 2021. Application forms are available at 41 Church Street, second floor. For more information, students can contact Ntotole Matlakala at (015) 287 6237 during office hours,” he said.
LTA Board Chairperson, Andrew Dipela said the small contribution that has been donated through the championship and Sunshine Tour will also assist many young people in the province to further their education. “We have committed ourselves to increase the money because the relationship between the parties is for three years and therefore we should be able to ensure a 100% increment for the next contribution to the fund,” said Dipela.
