‘Dobol’ at the 8th Kofifi Dance Party, tickets must be pre-booked

A variety of old school music, poetry, dancing and fashion will be on display and surprise DJ's will entertain guests.

POLOKWANE – Dobol Met Jou Masker, loosely translated to ‘Dance with your mask on’, is the theme for the eighth annual Kofifi Dance Party. The party starts at 14:00 on 31 October and will be held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World.

A variety of old school music, poetry, dancing and fashion will be on display and surprise DJ’s will entertain guests.

The event is known for its fashion statements and guests are expected to arrive in their Kofifi-style, Sunday best. According to the event’s organiser, Fortune Maswanganyi, the dance movement has gone from strength to strength since it was first held.

“This event showcases the beauty and glamour of African people. We want to remind people that black is beautiful and we must be proud of our heritage.

“The aim of the event is to take the crowd down memory lane and experience the atmosphere of Sophiatown. We want them to feel the music, the poetry and the dances while they connect with each other,” said Maswanganyi.

He said the Kofifi Dance Movement Brand is all about consistency. “The eighth Kofifi Dance Party is allowed to take place, even during the current pandemic. We will only have 250 people in the venue and 220 tickets to be sold and strict Covid-19 measures, such as the wearing of masks, which is in line with our theme, will be observed. We appreciate the support of the National Arts Council in supporting our cause,” he said. There will be an exhibition about Kofifi and Sophiatown to educate partygoers about the origin of Kofifi, Maswanganyi added.

Tickets bought before 18 October are sold at R150 each, and will cost R200 thereafter. Pre-book your ticket via WhatsApp (063 284 2082) to avoid disappointment.
