‘Snapchat filter on your face at all times’

Tips to remember for the perfect 'no-makeup' look

POLOKWANE – Makeup artist, Mokgadi Nyuswa shares some tips on how to ‘rock’ that natural and nude look face-beat for the ladies who are not fans of a heavy baked face beat.

“The aim of a ‘no-makeup’ look is to look like you have nothing on and requires a lot of skill. The makeup is perfect for daytime or go casual, the right nude makeup which will make you look and feel like you have a Snapchat filter on your face at all times,” she said.

She explains that when you wear nude makeup, one looks like they had the most refreshing vacation of their lives. “It is like you took no time to get ready and it is an impressive way to look as natural as ever but instead you have makeup on. Remember that before you put any makeup on, you should prioritise a solid skincare routine for a smooth finish. Your approach with application should be less is more,” she said.

Tips to remember:

• Firstly make sure that you have the correct base, concealer and powder that matches your skin colour tone. It does not matter what product brand you use, just make sure it has a SPF in it so that your skin is also protected.

• The whole point of the look is to make it look like your actual skin and remember that product placement is key. Focus on specific areas or opt for a full-face, full-coverage application.

• Start with your eyebrows, shape them your choice shape, line it with an eyeliner (preferably a brown one because you want that natural look), brush it upwards so that it looks natural.

• Apply the foundation on your face and then blend it out. Use what you already have to your advantage, instead of buying new products.

• Use a foundation brush or sponge, or even better, use your fingers to apply the makeup. For a smoother look, make sure that you don’t rub it in, but pat with your fore or index finger.

• After you apply your foundation, apply a concealer, use a finger as well to get that smooth look, pat it all around your face, make sure you do not skip a spot on around.

• After you have applied the foundation and concealer with a finger, apply powder with a powder sponge or brush. Blend it in properly so that it covers your whole face.

• Apply a brown or your skin colour blush on your cheeks. (To apply the blush, smile, then apply on the cheeks).

• Apply a light brown eyeliner so that it blends perfectly well with your skin. (Remember if you’re not sure, ask a makeup artist on what colour eyebrow matches your skin colour so that it blends with your skin).

• Apply a colourless mascara for that finish touch so that your lashes look ‘on fleek’ but natural.

• With a lipstick of your choice, go for a nude or colourless lipstick.
