Limpopo artists talent celebrated at Lima’s

The Limpopo Music Awards (Lima), held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on Saturday.

LIMPOPO – Rakgadi wa Limpopo, loosely translated as ‘Limpopo’s Aunt’, Candy ‘Tsa Mandebele’ Mokoena and Malwedhe hitmaker Khutso Steven ‘King Monada’ are shining on the circuit.

It was Limpopo music’s biggest night out this year during the Limpopo Music Awards (Lima), held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on Saturday.

Candy ‘Tsa Mandebele’ Mokoena scooped the awards for Best Female Artist, and Best Music Video, while King Monada scooped Song of the Year, and Best Male Artist.

The awards were hosted by Generations The Legacy actor, Kope Makgae, and the undisputed master of ceremonies, Mr Gab Mapiano.

Not to be outdone, Q-Scotch scooped the award for Best Male DJ, while Charmza DJ won Best Female DJ, and Xisomisana won Best Newcomer.

LIMA19 started off very well with the trademark Black Carpet experience, with guests doing their best to fit in with the theme: I am an African.

According to the LIMA CEO, Fortune Maswanganyi, local artists are putting the province on the map. “We are going somewhere as a province. This is an opportunity for artists to spark. We need to refine our craft and produce those hits.”

He encourages residents to book artists for the occasions and events they host.

“If we don’t change our mindset, we are not going anywhere. We need to support our own. The future is bright and we have what it takes to make it. We want to develop a strong industry and artists who will be able to survive in it. This was a glamorous day but the core of what we want to do is workshops where we get recording labels for artists, assisting them in terms of the business angle,” he said.
