Jumpsuits to suit your taste

Jumpsuits have wowed fashion runways across the world and have become a must-have item for every closet. Review spoke to Maribe Mamabolo of Peretla Clothing Designs to find out how to wear a jumpsuit.

POLOKWANE – Jumpsuits have made strides in the fashion industry since their creation in 1919, with the intention of servicing parachutist and sky divers. They have wowed fashion runways across the world and have become a must-have item for every closet. Review spoke to Maribe Mamabolo of Peretla Clothing Designs to find out how to wear a jumpsuit.

He said that before investing in a jumpsuit, look at your body type. There are certain fits and cuts that work better with certain body types. “For the slender people, I would recommend a fitted jumpsuit as the suit accentuates the shape. For the fuller figured person I recommend a looser cut with the pleats in front because the fit is slimming,” he said.

He explained that it is important to follow the rules of fashion and take note that if you are going to wear stripes, wear horizontal stripes because they make you look skinnier and tall, whereas the horizontal stripes make you look shorter and wider. “Another tip to hide your areas of concern is details. Have a busy material, for example florals, more details hide imperfections,” he said. He however added that those who do not like to draw attention on themselves, can go for something simple and solid. For those that like to try something new can try the Bermuda-cut jumpsuit.

Colours are in this season and the brighter the better. “Green is making a big statement right now, particularly bottle green. I also see that cerise pink is making a major comeback. You can also play around with floral colours,” he advised. On how to accessorise your jumpsuit, he advised looking at the cut. Open necklines are best during hot seasons and he recommends something like a hanging neck piece to accentuate the cut.

Shoes:

For fitted jumpsuits, you can go for a casual look with flat thong sandals but keep it classy by choosing a feminine cut. For the ultra casual look, go for a more wider strapped sandal. For a more formal look, heels would be the most obvious option, but tread carefully because the jumpsuit in itself is over-the-top.

Loose jumpsuits, you can play around with a casual look such as ankle boots or short heeled chunky boots. Sneakers can also work for this type of jumpsuit if you are going ultra casual. To formalise this jumpsuit, you can wear heels. Go for something simple and not too busy, this jumpsuit also works with chunky heels.

The wide leg jumpsuit requires heels but is less strict and gives you room to move around with your choice of heels be it chunky, wedge or thin heels.
