Residents of Polokwane Nasorgsentrum vir Volwasse Verstandelik Gestremdes are mobile again after the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 refurbished the engine of the centre’s 36 year old Volkswagen Kombi that has been out of service for quite a while.
“We have learnt about the centre’s predicament through one of our members and had to step in to assist. The vehicle, however, is 36 years old and we battled to find spare parts for its scarce water cooled engine,” President of the club, Horst Meyer said at the handing over of the vehicle on Friday.
The centre’s housemother, Saartjie du Toit and the residents thanked the Rotarians with a song and Du Toit explained that the vehicle was their only means of transport to convey residents to doctors and hospitals and to do shopping for the centre. “We are overwhelmed,” she said.
