The launch of Wessa Friends of Polokwane Nature Reserve is scheduled to take place at Laerskool Pietersburg-Oos at 18:30 tonight (Thursday) and all nature lovers of the city are invited to attend the event and become members.
According to convenor of the event Lisa Grosel, the aim of the launch is to introduce the community to the objectives of this conservation non-profit organisation.
“Renowned ecologists will be presenting an overview or the reserve’s importance and the wonderful natural aspects that it holds,” Grosel said and added that membership enrolment will take place. “This evening is a must for anyone and everyone who has an affinity with the reserve and is interested in its survival and longevity for the sake of future generations,” Grosel said.
Wessa Friends of Polokwane Game Reserve hosted its first event recently when a group of Grade 2 learners of Curro Heuwelkruin was taken to enjoy a lengthy game drive and experienced an interpretive trail on foot through the reserve.
“For many of these little ones the idea of walking through the bush was daunting but they soon warmed up to the idea and realised there was far more to be learned from the bush than to be afraid of. The morning of learning ended up at the reserve’s very own environmental education centre where a presentation on the philosophy of reducing, reusing and recycling was conducted,” Grosel said and added that the excursion formed part of the school’s fundraising event for wildlife.
