The finalists in the Mrs Polokwane 2020 pageant hard at work in the run-up to the crowning gala set for 30 November at a local venue to be confirmed by the organisers.
The entrants, all married and from the city and surrounds, entered the competition in March with the hope of earning the title that will in turn make it possible for them to reach out to charity organisations in the city and surrounds. Of the initial 30 entries some were forced to withdraw due to circumstances such as work constraints and pregnancy, leaving 11 finalists.
The contestants on Friday celebrated Women’s Day in style when they were treated to a make-up and photo shoot session and delicious food at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort.
Pageant organiser and Mrs Polokwane 2019, Charlene Geswind indicated that the contest was directed to married women and aims to uplift communities.
She explained that each participant chooses a charity organisation of her choice in her area or the city to support. She added that it is expected of contenders to embark on a variety of initiatives such as blankets drives, food and clothes collection among others.
According to Geswind, the competition is purely aimed at giving back to the community.
“The contestants partner with their husbands when conducting activities. Women hardly have time to celebrate themselves hence we embarked on this exercise on Friday.
We wanted them to dress up, get make-up, have a photo session and socialise. We had a great time and we are looking forward to the gala evening where the winners will be crowned,” Geswind explained.
She highlighted that they stand a chance of winning a cash prize and awesome vouchers. Titles at stake include Mrs Polokwane 2020 overall winner, first and second runners-up, Mrs Polokwane Photogenic and Mrs Polokwane Congeniality.
Geswind wished the contestants the best of luck and also thanked the sponsors for making their Women’s Day celebration a success. Polokwane Observer is the print media partner of Mrs Polokwane 2020.
