Limpopo Candy’s afrosoul album comes out tops at Samas

Local music and television queen, Candy Tsamandebele has once again made Limpopo proud after she won the Best Traditional Album category at this year’s South African Music Awards #SAMA25 for her album Hupenyu Unenge Viri.

POLOKWANE – Hupenyu Unenge Viri took a year and a half to complete and was produced by various producers from South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria. The two lead singles, Siku Ne Siku, which was released last year, and Nathinga which was recently released, showcases the versatility and immense workmanship of the songs in the album. Candy’s ex-boyfriend, Nonny D, was featured on Siku Ne Siku and she penned Nathinga together with Mr Mo of Walking Away fame. Jnr SA also served as a producer alongside Candy and Mr Mo.

“I’m so glad I won this award, because producing and releasing traditional/Afrosoul music is not an easy job given where the music industry is at in South Africa. It is growing, and one might lose that traditional essence if there is a lack of determination and focus,” Candy said. She further explains that putting out her single, Hupenyu Unenge Viri, was a deliberate and thoroughly planned process.

“The collaborations on this album are a clear indication that I love culture and traditional music from Africa as a whole. With that being said, I would like to thank everyone who support me and my music,” she added.

Candy who is also known for her role as flamboyant, loud shebeen queen Mhani Dayina on SABC 2’s telenovela, Giyani Land of Blood, was dressed for the occasion by local designer, Manyaku UDF.
