Young people from Altar of Glory Church in Bloodriver were treated to an informative session during a youth development seminar hosted by Sent 2 Serve Ministries at Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) Taberna Dei Mother Campus on Saturday.
Some 25 youngsters, who attended the gathering that was guided by the theme ‘Who am I?’, got to learn about managing their money God’s way during a presentation by motivational speaker, Wilco Naumann. Other topics covered on the day included ‘What does the world think and say about me, What does God say and think of me, and which opinion matters the most.
The highlight of the day was when another motivational speaker, Frank Maponya walked into church with a bottle of brandy in his hand pretending to be a homeless person. Attendees looked at him with shock as they were not informed of the act. Sent 2 Serve Ministries founder Melville Botha stated that the exercise was to test youngsters’ reaction and how they would treat Maponya as he walked in looking drunk and dirty.
“The seminar which was part of Youth Day celebration was aimed at motivating and empowering youth. The seminar continued on Sunday in Bloodriver with thanksgiving ceremony.
This was a fruitful session and each person got a bible and certificate of attendance. We are happy with the participation of these youngsters and the turnout was also great. We would like to thank them for coming out in their numbers to attend the seminar.
We are grateful to Taberna Dei who provided the venue and transport and everyone who made the gathering a success,” Botha explained.
Naumann encouraged the youth to know how to budget and tell their money where to go. He further said he uses the 70%, 10%, 10% and 10% rule and added that the percentages meant spend, save it for a rainy day, give away and active capital respectively. He reiterated that people must learn from an ant by not using all the money they have but save some for future use.
Naumann reminded youth that they can still make it in life without a university qualification but urged them to read as many books as possible to gain knowledge. He also encouraged them to learn to negotiate when they purchase items to save money.
