Dilwana Moagoro is proof that women can have both beauty and brains

The 34-year-old from Madiba Park is a Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa semi-finalist.

POLOKWANE – Growing up in the dusty Matlala village, Dilwana has always wanted to be on the stage as a beauty pageant model but fate had other plans. When she was a 17 year- old Gr 12 learner, she fell pregnant with her firstborn and that changed the course of her life and career.

She then took a break from her studies and eventually looked for a job to take care of her son. But she says she was also fortunate because her then boyfriend (who is now her husband) was always supportive. The business analysis at Transnet is married to Madiba Magoro, and blessed with two daughters and one son, Katlhotse (16), Tshepang (14), and Kgotso (10).

She has proven that she’s not just an pretty face as she holds a honours degree in business administration from Wits, a diploma in advance project management from Damelin, certificate in IT management from the University of Cape Town, Prince 2 Practitioner certified from smart PM, and she is currently studying towards a certificate in business analysis from Faculty of Training Institute (FTI).

She said, when growing up she wanted to participate in the Miss Teen pageant, but by that time she was a mother already. “Sometime last year, a friend of mine posted a photo of the reigning Mrs SA, Matema Maila on social media, that was the day I decided that I was going to enter Mrs SA, and luckily, I’ve been called for casting and now I am a semi-finalist,” said Magoro.

She said being a Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa semi-finalist is excitement and stress in the very same space, because there is so much that you need to do, you are taken out of your comfort zone.

“I am that person who is always on social media, but I hardly post. Now I need to be out in the public, I need to sell tickets for Mrs SA events, and find sponsorships, raise money, but at the same time it’s exciting, because I am doing something completely different,” she said.

She further said her family are extremely supportive, whenever she says she needs to do something her husband will jump in and assist.

“My children also help by posting about my journey on social media. I believe that I have a story to tell, and one of the biggest reasons why I entered Mrs SA is because I need a platform to tell my story. I believe that it will inspire a lot of people growing up in rural areas, falling pregnant. I had three children at the age of 24, so some people thought I would end up as nothing, this is a good platform for me to tell my story, so that those people who live in rural area can make it in life. I have to raise R23 000 before June. I am asking residents to donate whatever they can to help me reach my goal,” she explains.

She told BONUS that hard work pays off, you must believe that you can do it.

“Anything is possible you must tell yourself that,” she concludes.
