Local non-profit company Beyond Disability SA is expected to celebrate International Wheelchair Day with the disabled persons at the University of Limpopo’s Reakgona Disability Centre tomorrow (Friday).
According to the founder of the organisation Solomon Ramauka, affectionately known as DJ Bambo, from Seshego they will use the day to acknowledge the lives of disabled persons.
“We will also be recognise the positive impact wheelchairs have on wheelchair users’ lives by bringing communities, families, employers, employees and wheelchair users together.
We will use the day to address challenges faced by families of wheelchair users and strengthen family bonds through participation in fun activities,” Ramauka said.
Some of the activities lined up on the day are, wheelchair fun roll, aerobics and fun games.
“We will be having motivational speakers, occupational therapists and physical therapists present on the day.”
Ramauka started using a wheelchair in 2017 after a near fatal motorbike accident. He was a member of popular bike group Sapa Yopa at the time.
