The Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 last Thursday started its activities for 2019 on a high note with the induction of Fred Hurter as a new Rotarian. Hurter’s wife, Ani was also welcomed as a Rotary Ann. President of the club, Johan Joubert congratulated Fred on his induction and said that membership of Rotary is a honour and a privilege with corresponding duties and obligations. “The community will know and judge Rotary by your actions. Therefore, membership of Rotary is limited to those who possess the qualities that will further the goals of Rotary in line with the motto ‘Service above self’. You have been chosen because we are confident that the image and ideals of Rotary are safe in your keeping,” Joubert said.
Joubert also demonstrated a can collection bin with a compacting device that was developed by himself as his presidential project. The bins will be deployed at various points in the city as a collection point for beverage cans. The funds raised will go towards charity and old age homes in particular.
