In closing its official program for 2018, the South African Women Lawyers Association (Sawla) Limpopo recently hosted its annual gala dinner at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort under the theme: Are We Winning as Women?
Chairperson of Sawla Limpopo, Mpho Kgabi said in a media release that the event also sought to advise newly admitted female legal practitioners on the important regulations and rules to be followed in opening a law firm.
According to Kgabi, Sawla Limpopo focuses mostly on empowering female lawyers within the legal industry. “The Sawla mandate also aims to empower and encourage any girl child and woman that they have a big role to play within society and that they too can achieve any goal they put their minds to. We further aim to address challenges faced by girls, boys and women in Limpopo, and have ongoing projects in the province. These take the form of public lectures; community outreach projects; mentoring of University Student Chapters, mentoring of a girl child; donations of sanitary pads and donations of school shoes to both girls and boys,” Kgabi said and added that during 2019, Sawla Limpopo will aim to expand its projects by tackling teenage pregnancy issues in Limpopo schools, especially in the Vembe area.
A motivational speech was delivered by Moremadi Mothapo, Chairperson of the Justice Portfolio Committee in Parliament and a member of Sawla Limpopo. She motivated women in the legal profession and gave a stimulating speech regarding passion, persistence, honesty and integrity, encouraging the young legal practitioners to be honest in all their dealings and emphasising the importance of building their integrity. A key phrase she left attendees with was “Do the right thing, even if no one can see you”. The keynote address was delivered by Fikile Mokgohloa, Deputy Judge President of Limpopo, posing the question: Are we winning as women?.
Sawla Limpopo also accepts donations to facilitate Girl Child and Women Empowerment Projects. Their bank details are:
