Mafefe Disability Association celebrated the efforts and strides made by the disabled persons in their communities during the commemoration of disabled persons at Mafefe sports grounds on Saturday.
On the day the association led by their chairperson, Jimmy Thobejane created awareness about disability and also urged able members of the community not to discriminate against the disabled.
Thobejane further remarked that the day was also aimed at educating members of the community about disability. “There are stereotypes and myths about disability and we want to quell that. We told them that they must accommodate and live together with disabled members of the community. Look, disability is not an illness but a social condition that may affect the individual, we just want people to understand that,” stressed Thojebane.
He also stated that are plenty of educated disabled persons in various communities who can’t be employed or absorbed by companies because of their disability. “We want companies to employ them and treat them like human beings,” concluded Thobejane.
