Gospel is Sammy M’s speciality

Gospel Singer Samuel Sammy M Mothiba (28) who has released three albums in the last few years, has also released a few singles: Jerusalema ft Sebasa Mogale and Change ft DR Molewa.

POLOKWANE – He also wrote a song with the Seshego Gospel Choir and will be featuring them in the song, Ka Wena, which is soon to be released.

Born and bred in Ga-Mothiba, Dipelaneng and now residing in Bendor, Sammy has always known that music is in his blood.

“I started singing in church and primary school, and won a lot of awards while singing in the choir when I was 12,” he added.

While regarding himself as a versatile musician, he says he specialises in gospel and has performed many events in and outside Polokwane including at church, private events, music festivals, functions and gala dinners.

“I previously worked with Putuma Tiso, Muzo Brothers, Siphokazi, Infinite Worship and many other artists who inspire me,” he added.

In the music industry, Sammy feels as an artist, you can work with other artists on songs and albums, but he advises artists not to group themselves with other artists permanently.

“I feel like when you’re in a group, you can’t achieve or excel in what you want to do, freely. For instance, if you want to enter a singing competition as an individual artist but you’re already in a group, your team will think you’re trying to compete or your abandoning them or something. I work just fine as an individual artist,” he added.

In the music industry, Sammy says an ear for music is heard by the person who listens to music.

“I believe in learning from each other and focusing on projects, then the job becomes great at the end of the day. Focus is key. Have alignments with your work schedule by making sure you get time for your music and get enough rest,” he advised.

Being an artist in Polokwane is not hard when you know who you are, he believes.

“Just know your target market, your vision and allow God to take charge of your steps. Yes, media access at some events might be a problem, but Limpopo is a province of religion, once you do your craft professionally, it’s not that hard to penetrate the market,” he added.
