The coveted title of Miss Limpopo 2019 belongs to Charmaine Nkosi, a 22-year old Media Studies student from Fauna Park, Polokwane.
She was crowned at a glitzy event held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on Saturday evening having beaten eight other finalists from different areas in the province. Phoebe Kgomoeswana was named first princess and Lina Maleka second princes. Edith Maluluke won the Miss Public Choice category, Ethel Maimela was named Miss Heart of Gold and Veronica Ledwaba Miss Congeniality.
Nkosi says she never thought she could win the title after the first bite. “I entered the pageant for the first time this year and to be honest for me it was never about winning it but serving the community. I want to use this platform to promote the welfare of others by helping the less fortunate and less privileged, particularly young people. I am excited about the pageant enabling me to help those in need.”
Nkosi, a former Miss Humanity South Africa, stressed that she was looking forward to her reign. “I know that an exciting journey awaits me. I am looking forward to help needy learners from rural areas in the province with study materials, books and schools uniform. I will be starting next year with the project at Madipowana Secondary School in the Mankweng area. From Madipowana we will be reaching to other schools in the province,” Nkosi said.
Sbongile Nkosi, Charmaine’s mother said her wish for her daughter was that she should remain humble and never forget God during her reign. “She has everything because of the grace of God. This is the beginning of greater things to come for her. She must use her reign to enhance Limpopo as a whole, be there for the needy and be a good ambassador for the province because the province is known for wrong things. She must look after herself. As a family we will support her.”
One of the judges, Sarah Holloway-Smith said Nkosi’s communication, creativity and organisational skills stood out.
“I think those traits made her to win the title. She has amazing team work skills and great personality and she will serve the pageant well.”
Miss Limpopo 2018, Gail Mokwatlo thanked the organisers of the pageant for allowing her to live her dream. “I was not here to compete but to use a platform and do what I had to do. This was a podium for me to live my destiny, validate my dreams and serve the people. I want to thank everyone who travelled the journey with me.”
