The Mafefe Disability Organisation is busily preparing for their year-end function and has extended a request to anyone interested to get involved.
According to managing member of the organisation, Jimmy Thobejane, the objective of the event, which is set to take place on 22 December at the Mafefe Disability centre at 10:00, is to empower, motivate and provide hope to the members before the Christmas season as many of them are not included in their families’ celebrations. “We currently have 79 registered members as well as 18 caregivers.
The Mafefe Disability Organisation is a non-profit organisation that was established in 2012. Most members including the executive committee are people living with disability. Thobejane who also lives with disability, said being in a deeply rural area, raising funds is a daunting task. “However, we have managed by never giving up and would like to thank each and every person and organisation who has assisted us to come this far,” he said. He also thanked the local councillor and other traditional leaders in the area for their support.
“We have been able to buy sewing machines and can now teach members to sew. Besides this, we also have a vegetable garden, car wash and public printing/copying facilities,” Thobejane further said.
He added that the organisation is not exclusive to those living with disability but is also prepared to assist other people who need help.
Anyone who would like to assist can contact Thobejane on 082 953 7678.
