After being rejected several times by modelling agencies due to short stature, local model Sukeinna Jones (19) recently secured a deal with Boss Models Johannesburg in the commercial board section and would officially start with her commitments next year January.
Jones, who is currently enrolled with Limpopo Beauty Modelling Academy could not hide her excitement during an interview with Polokwane Observer on Tuesday when she said she was delighted to be part of the agency known for dealing with many South African celebrities and models.
At the moment she is working with Limpopo Beauty Modelling Academy owner, Katryn Celliers to get her portfolio in order and polish her catwalk skills.
Jones indicated that she had applied at Boss Models many times but she was always rejected because of her lack of height.
The rejection did not stop her to apply for opportunities and her dream recently came true when she received a phone call from the agency to let her know that she had secured a deal.
“Although the deal is huge I don’t feel intimidated or afraid because I love challenges. I will be moving to Gauteng next year to commence with my duties and I can’t wait to see myself on a billboard because this has always been my dream.
I am not in the modelling industry for fame but I can just imagine the feeling of seeing myself on a huge billboard or a poster displayed at one of the clothing retailers,” Jones explained.
She said she is her own strictest competition and was confident that she would ace the tasks.
“This is a big deal for me,” she said and added that she loves modelling because it is fun, adventurous and full of challenges.
She stated that the industry needs people who embrace their own fears and who are always true to themselves rather than trying to be someone else.
She urged aspiring models to be passionate about what they do and never try to copy someone else. “If you believe in something, believe in it all the way,” Jones concluded.
Celliers congratulated Jones on the deal as she stated that this is a big achievement for a Limpopo girl and they will support her all the way.
She further said they are proud of her and she was confident that she will do her best. Celliers wished Jones best of luck with her future endeavours.
