Freemasons attached to Pietersburg United 2485 and Doric 7225 in Polokwane brought big smiles to the faces of children at Ngwana Baby House when they donated teddy bears to the institution on Friday as part of their national Brother Bear project.
Freemason Hercules Jansen van Vuuren indicated that the donation was part of National Children’s Day commemorated in South Africa annually on the first Saturday of November. “The aim of the day is to highlight progress being made towards the realisation and promotion of rights of children. To aid in this initiative Masonic lodges across the country visited children’s homes, hospitals and other institutions to hand them teddy bears,” Jansen van Vuuren said.
He added that the donation would not be a once-off initiative and that numerous mechanisms were being established to extend the teddy bear initiative to an annual event and possibly a permanent feature at local institutions.
