Script writer prioritises languages
Film maker and professional script writer, Eliyah Papole aka Kiasto from Maxisky Media says that the media needs to go back to prodding content that the audience and the community can relate to - from the language used to the relevance the content holds.
POLOKWANE – “The youth of today adopted English as their mother tongue and first language and their home languages, Sepedi, Khelobedu and Zulu as their second priority language to communicate, we see this in the media. This results in us as a nation forgetting our own languages.
“As Africans, each and every single one of us needs to prioritise our home language to communicate in.

“I’ve seen it when we shoot our movies, as actors always ask me to allow them to use English in their dialogues, but I encourage them to use their home languages as I am multilingual and of course this would help us promote our indigenous languages, culture and the way we live and eat on a daily basis.”
Kiasto recently scripted a short film called Leeto which is set to be broadcasted soon. His proudly Sepedi written screen play script is called Morabaraba and it is going to be shot in Mampuru, Burgersfort in October. “Morabaraba is written 100% in Sepedi sa Sekhukhune, which is his mother tongue. I am also working on another film called 7 Women 1 Man, I am working with local gospel sensation Ngola Lekgothoane,” he said.
He furthermore encourages the media to include different traditions and cultures in their content in order to preserve the rainbow nation.
