Pietersburg Metal of Honour bike club hosted the tenth annual golden oldies day jol at Vergeet My Nie Behuising last Saturday. This year’s gathering was held in honour of the late Richard van Balkom, in life president of Bikers that Care, who previously organised the day.
Club president Ian Saunderson said Van Balkom used to leave no stone unturned when it came to treating the elderly and ensuring that they have fun on the day.
From early on members of the club and residents of the centre set up tables where a variety of homemade items such as hand knitted scarves, home-baked biscuits and preserves could be bought. The club members also served guests a light breakfast.
Saunderson said all the money raised on the day will be donated to the centre adding that last year they managed to raise over R28 000. While bikers from across the province attended visually impaired musician Gypsy-G made for the entertainment.
