Kasi rap artist encourages the youth to ‘look on the brighter side of life’
With an aim of breaking into the international hip hop and rap industry, Sithulile Xolani Sibiya aka Sthwela (25), also known as California, is already working to wow Polokwane peeps with his music.
POLOKWANE – As a rap artist, he terms his music as “Kasi Rap” as he is inspired by the life in the townships and performs most weekends at scheduled gigs and events in order to market his brand.
His latest single called Phaphatha (meaning Clap) is already making waves on Google Play, Itunes, Sportify, Deezer and various other music sites.
“I have rapping for a while now. In fact my passion and love for rap and hip hop started back when I was in high school. I used to listen to a lot of hip and rap from both international artists as well as local artists,” he said.
He is inspired by the likes of local rap artists such as the late Linda Mkhize (Pro Kid) popular for the phrase Dankie San, Kwesta, Zwake, FedeFede.
“These artists reached the top of their profession at a young age and are an inspiration to the youth to dream big and to believe that they too can achieve their dreams. I am working hard to be such a inspiration to others,” he explained.
He continues and says life should not stop when people, the youth struggle to further their studies as there is a lot that can be done to better ones life, such finding a love or a passion for something that can be turned into a business.
“In my township, many youths are sitting on talents some on qualifications just because it is difficult to land a formal job nowadays. I want to encourage them to look on the brighter side of life and find out where their passions and aspirations lie so that they can follow those. I know for a fact that after doing that life does get much better,” he concluded.
