Author returns to roots for launch

Award-winning author Panashe Chigumadzi launched her latest book, These Bones Will Rise Again, during an afternoon event in Polokwane on Saturday and with it triggered conversation on the current Zimbabwean situation.
The book, her second since Sweet Medicine that won the K Sello Duiker Literary Award in 2016, was launched in London at two festivals in June, in Harare towards the end of July and in Bulawayo last week. Launches were in the planning for Johannesburg and Pretoria this week prior to a lecture in Cape Town she is scheduled to address next week. The launch in Polokwane was rather befitting for it was here that she spent part of her life.
It was also on the evening of last week’s Bulawayo launch – which she was advised against – that tanks passed a few blocks from the venue, however the small but appreciative audience remained adamant that they wanted to indeed discuss the literary work, Chigumadzi explained in an interview with Polokwane Observer prior to Saturday afternoon’s gathering.
