Willy Seropana catapulted into the spotlight with latest hit
Innocious William Mpheti, who goes by the stage name Willy Seropana, has been burning up dance floors with his hit single 'Vosho' featuring Mellow October.
LIMPOPO – Seropana started making music in 2015, initially starting out as a hip hop artist, but soon realised there wasn’t a market for his hip hop sound in Burgersfort, where he is from. In 2016, he decided to go into making house and gqom music.
The 22-year-old now identifies as a gqom artist and he one day hopes his craft will see him performing in Durban alongside his favourite artists. “I want to be a living testimony that people from rural areas can succeed in life. People will discourage you but the focus should always be on what you are doing. I feel like my song has the potential to become song of the year according to the feedback that I am getting from people everywhere I perform and the fact that I am from a small rural village will not stop me,” he explained.
The song was released in April and it’s on high rotation on local community radio stations which has catapulted him into the spotlight with his fans unable to get enough of his music. The song has grossed over 15 000 downloads and streams. It is currently the biggest song in Burgersfort and steadily gaining momentum in other parts of Limpopo. Seropana has embarked on a radio tour which has seen him being interviewed on nine local radio stations and has headlined several shows around the province. He released a music video for the song and received over 1 000 views in the first week of its release on Youtube.
