Keep your formal game hot and classy this winter

Prep for formal events this winter with these hot tips from Jerry Pitja, stylist and owner of Da Elegancy Men's Boutique in Seshego.

POLOKWANE – “I have realised since I ventured into the fashion industry that formal wear during winter can be a nightmare for most men. I started off as a fashion blogger, then moved on to become an expert in men’s fashion and styling which is how I came to start my boutique,” he explained.

Jerry said he frequently gets calls and messages from men asking for advice on what to wear or how to dress for various occasions which is why he invited BONUS to his boutique, to share winter fashion tips with men such as how to rock a suit in a classy way without compromising on warmth.

“Suits come in different materials and textures ideally designed for specific climates, as well as occasions and it is important for all men to know all of them,” he added.

Jerry gave BONUS readers five must-have suits for this winter.

1. The all-season navy wool suit which can be relevant for going out with friends or job interviews. These suits have a breathable wool fabric which is not too heavy.

2. Spring summer khaki cotton suit. A classic colour, which can be appropriate for winter and has enough edge to pull double duty on weekends. Try it with a buttoned shirt and a pair of white canvas sneaker or even boots to complete the look.”

3. Double-breasted suits. “These suits have been around for the past seasons and are currently trending. The good part about this suit is that it keeps you warm while you look good as the extra layers will ensure you keep warm this winter.”

4. The grey flannel suit. This suit is now more elegant, stylish and versatile which means one can wear it with a shirt in your colour of choice and a black tie, making it a perfect nine to five-look.

5. The tuxedo. “Skip the rental game and buy a tux instead. It’s an investment as you won’t just be buying a suit, you’ll be investing in a better-looking you. Get something that will age well, black is a solid bet. Don’t forget to choose peak lapels or a shawl collar as it speaks on your behalf and grows your confidence.”

Jerry also advises men to not forget about winter accessories such as light scarfs, leather gloves and hats to complete their formal look while they beat the winter chills.
