Many have described motherhood as tough, taxing and emotional but according to Teboho Makoti, a mother of three daughters, it is a most fulfilling journey.
She says nothing beats the feeling of waking up next to her children and seeing their raw smiles, the joy and the love on their faces every day. “Those are one of the things that makes me appreciate motherhood. The fact that I am raising three beautiful souls makes me even happier,” Makoti said.
She emphasised that despite all the challenges of motherhood she never gets tired of its significance and she will always embrace and celebrate Mother’s Day. “I have been a mother for a few decades now and believe me, I never tire of its significance. My family has always celebrated Mother’s Day and it grew in me. I love how on that particular day everything happy and beautiful revolves around a mother,” Makoti said.
“Some people claim that it is a fabricated holiday by commercial companies to make money. I say it is a day that we show more appreciation for the little things we do out of love for the little people in our lives and the mothers who raised us to be the best in who we are and what we do. What I also love about Mother’s Day is how my daughters make an effort to remember me in thoughtful ways and show appreciation for all the early hours I dedicated to them making sure that they are ready for school and in perfect form. It is a reminder of what beautiful caring young women they have grown into, and, for that, I am very thankful,” added Makoti.
She stressed that the day affords her time to set aside the challenges of daily life and kick back and relax with family over a good meal and laughter. “For me Mother’s Day should be a family affair where all generation mothers should come together and share their wisdom and good health with the younger generation and eat and have fun. I am going to celebrate Mother’s Day with my daughters and husband over breakfast. They surprise me every year,” Makoti concluded.
