Talented young researcher Pabalelo Radingoana was among 19 emerging researchers from across the globe who received an Ajman Municipality Conference Grant to attend the Ajman 5th International Environment Conference on Climate Change and Sustainability (AIEC2018) in the United Arab Emirates rcently.
Radingoana, a Junior Lab Assistant in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Limpopo (UL), holds an MSc in Geography and currently studying towards her PhD, had the opportunity to present her first academic paper to the international community of Geologist and Environmental professionals.
In her paper she seeks to find ways to provide solutions to water reservation strategies and believes that water reuse can be a possible substitute for freshwater.
With research interests in climate change, grey water reuse, food security, and livelihoods, Radingoana said her current study will provide solutions to severely affected rural households on food security through the reuse of greywater (water used after bathing) for home garden irrigation.
She mentioned that the conference came in handy at all levels as she has never been to an international gathering. “Starting my career at an international level is an encouraging sign for me. It affirms that I am stepping up the ladder of becoming a South African female research leader,” she said.
The conference centred on the subject of climate change challenges and adaption. It also addressed environmental issues ranging from climate change to biodiversity and environmental adaptations.
