Review spoke to 24-year-old self-taught hair technician and stylist Tebogo Manaka from Ga-Thoka, Unit D, just outside of Polokwane, to find out how one can achieve the effortless yet classy sassy edges to complete their hairdos. “I learned how to play around with hair from a very young age, as early as primary school and throughout high school and tertiary and I am now doing it for a living. I get to experiment with different types of coarse hair and from last year I have been getting a lot questions with regards to how one can properly lay the edges of the hair in a neat and classy manner, so I did some research and found some easy steps to follow to achieve the perfect edges without looking hideous,” she explained.
Here are a few tips in achieving those slay worthy edges:
- Using a styling gel or hair freeze product (based on one’s personal preference, there are different brands available), which can be purchased at any cosmetics outlet.
- An old tooth brush which will be used to brush the little hairs before applying the styling gel or the hair freeze gel onto them. NB only use the required amount of gel, not too much and not too little.
- A normal hair brush and comb (depending on your current hairstyle), these will be used to brush or comb and style hair as desired to make it neat and presentable.
- A hair dryer, to dry out the hair that has been laid down with the hair freeze products to make the hair super fleek! You may add a little oil to your edges once they are styled to help inhibit any flaking and to keep your hair protected.
