Kamo.K makes its entry on the beauty scene

After completing her fashion media studies at the LISOF Fashion & Retail Academy and determined to live out her dream, Kamogelo Kwapa has now officially launched her make-up and beauty company called Kamo.K.

POLOKWANE –  “I’ve always seen myself in business so after being crowned Miss University of Limpopo, I saw an opportunity and a need within the beauty and make-up field and decided to officially launch myself as a make-up artist. The aim is to teach ladies what I learned and equip them with beauty skills that will help them and those that they will use for a long time. Another reason for starting this company is that after losing my Dad in 2014, I was forced to grow up and be responsible. My mom is currently unemployed and I thought it’s time I do something that can sustain us and also build us as a family,” she explained.

During her studies at the LISOF Fashion & Retail Academy, she acquired skills on styling, make-up, trend forecasting, buying and merchandising, marketing, how to apply make-up on different face shapes and skin tones as well as how to style and dress different body shapes. “I’ve always loved art and when I was in high school I majored in visual arts and design. I always say the face is my canvas and that’s where I express myself as an artist so when I went to fashion school I fell in love with the art of transformation and beauty enhancement. I enjoy putting on make-up and I got inspired by the different ways in which you can apply it on different skin tones. Going into depth with make-up artistry was really interesting and it just felt like something I could do for a very long time without getting bored,” she explained.

Kamo.K specialises in make-up, styling and beauty as well as image consultancy. “When I founded my company, I was inspired by my story, I had a bicycle accident when I was 12 which left me with a scar on my face. For years I felt insecure about it and always wanted to cover it up. After learning how to apply make-up, I fell in love with my scar because I realized that it makes me unique so I wanted women who can relate to also embrace their scars, flaws and imperfections while applying make-up the right way so they can feel confident. I believe that make-up is not meant to cover up, but to enhance your beauty so Kamo.K seeks to inspire women to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin while looking like the queens that they are, hence the slogan ‘beauty with confidence’. I see Kamo.K growing to be more than just a freelance beauty company but also a company that will create opportunities for aspiring make-up artists in South Africa and globally,” she explained.

Although the future seems bright, she also shed some light on the difficulty of staying relevant and on the challenges of evolving within the industry. “Being an entrepreneur is hard and social media makes it look so easy. I’ve learned that if I don’t work hard, fight, persist and preserve then Kamo.K won’t grow. Radio Turf & COTH have both opened doors for Kamo.K and have been my supporting structures as I’ve been getting exposure through both of these and I also look forward to where God will take Kamo.K in the future,” she concluded.
