A sea of Hats of Hope worn by the supporters of the Cansa Relay For Life filled the field at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Under the theme ‘Go Purple, Wear a Hat of Hope’, Cansa Limpopo was able to collect R180 000, with more pledges still to be paid, according to Cansa Limpopo Community Mobiliser Christopher Combrink.
The afternoon started with a lap around the track by bikers from various motorcycle clubs and was followed by the survivor lap during which survivors of cancer took to the track proudly waving at onlookers. Thereafter supporters joined the procession.
The luminaria ceremony was the highlight of the evening part of the event and was dedicated to those who lost their battle to cancer. Candles in luminaria bags lined the track and were lit while the stadium lights were dimmed and everyone observed a moment of silence for those affected by cancer and those who lost their battle against it.
All the proceeds from the Relay For Life Polokwane will be used for the work done at Cansa Polokwane Care Centre.
Combrink thanked everyone who had a hand in making the event such a success and said next year’s event will be bigger and better.

The SANBS Limpopo team are in front Lazarus Lepadima and in the middle are Mary Ramaboea and Petunia Sebone. At the back are Tseliso Motshoeheng, Blood Buddy (Ntswaki Sebogoane) and Pradeep Kara.
