‘No one should suffer in silence’

Babybear Dikeledi Masenya is a self-taught wedding gown designer and motivational speaker. Having cultivated a love and passion for weddings, marital unions and women’s wellbeing, Babybear from Ga-Maphoto explained the joy that she experiences when she helps women in overcoming their marital as well as their social problems by engaging with each of her clients on a personal level.

POLOKWANE – “I realised that people, well the clientele that I kept, was filled with women who needed a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to about their problems and make them feel better so that they can move on with life. Then one day I came up with an idea to have a mini road trip to an undisclosed location where I was to meet up with some of the women that I had been interacting with, some of whom I had never even met, only virtually via social media platforms. I planned a weekend getaway and suggested it to them on social media and they were keen on this, they all came through on the weekend we had agreed upon. We talked and I believe that by Sunday of that weekend we were all calm and rested and ready to conquer the world again,” she explained.

Masenya explained how she met a mother of one during the weekend getaway, one who had always been the strong one among her friends, the bubbly one who had always been able to make her friends laugh in the midst of whatever challenges that they would be faced with at the given moment. Although things hadn’t always been a walk in the park for her she herself wasn’t able to receive the same help and comfort that she had extended to others. “It was in these very moments that made me choose to be there for other people who may be finding themselves in her shoes or similar situations as that of hers. Life is hard enough as it is and from my own personal experience not having someone to talk to and share my problems as well as my achievements with at most times put me off and this is a feeling I wouldn’t wish upon anyone.”

Her dreams for the future include that of hosting a television show where she can interact with the women on a larger scale.”No one should suffer in silence, it is at times God’s calling for some people, such as myself to be a shoulder to cry on. I will serve this role as it is God given to me and I will let God use me to get through to His people,” she explained.

Her advise to those who are going through a difficult time is to never give up and to know that they aren’t the only ones who are having a tough time. “This may sound cliché and all but the truth is that everyone is fighting something we know nothing about, we must all bear this in mind and respect each other in that regard. My advise is simple. Find someone you can talk to, even if it is a stranger or someone you have never met before but do not bottle things up because that is not healthy.” she concluded.
