Managing the Energy FM Station

This week, readers get to know more about Energy FM's Station Manager Bothwell BK Matewe.

POLOKWANE

• BK always says “Share 1”. What does it mean? Ruth, Bendor.

“Hi Ruth, it is Xewani which is Xitsonga for good morning or good day.”

• Mr BK you are a station manager, a weekly radio presenter and also working with the ‘craziest’ team on Energy FM. Don’t you find yourself exhausted when you get home late? And do you still manage to spare time for your family? Kolobe, Moremadi Park in Nobody.

“Naturally one gets exhausted but it also boils down to time management and allowing one to rest when feeling overwhelmed with work. Trust me I do get time to be with my family and I am grateful for their support in all of this.”

• Besides working with Ashifashabba and Mpho on the Ashifa Breakfast show, which other two presenters would you be able to work with and still rock the mic? Matome, Madiba Park

“Hahahaha, interesting question Matome. It would be unfair to single out any pair since I have worked with Ashifashabba and Mpho for more than 10 years now and we have built a relationship and chemistry over the years. But, as a professional, I would take it in my stride to work with whoever I am tasked to work with.”

• BK, how did you meet Shabba and Mpho? I know you guys come a very long way together. Mmaphuti, Unit D Mankweng.

“I first met Shabba in 1996 while I was still a student at the University of Venda and met Mpho 12 years later.”

• I want to know what the initials ‘BK’ stand for? Lesley, Seshego Zone 4.

“BK are my initials. B is for Bothwell and K is for Kung Fu.”

• With Ramaphosa being elected as the president, do you think that South Africa can be a better place? Solomon, Sebayeng.

“I certainly think he comes in as breath of fresh air judging by the prior discontent expressed in the public discourse by the majority of South Africans. Like everyone else he needs all of our support and I am convinced he too wants our country to be a better place for all its citizens.”

• Hi BK which team do you support? Andries Maponya, Ext 44.

“I prefer not to say which team I support locally for professional reasons but in the Barclays Premiership, I am and remain a staunch fan of Liverpool.”
