Shibe has big plans to spread her wings

Shibe Mogaila has set her sights on the Miss Eagle South Africa title and is giving it her all to bring the crown home.

POLOKWANE – The 23-year-old community healthcare graduate has a passion for helping people. She is currently studying towards a safety officer qualification while competing in pageants in her spare time.

She began competing in pageants in 2013 when she entered the Miss Chuene pageant after hearing a friend talk about it.

She recalls her first pageant experience like it was yesterday: “The crowd was very receptive. People from my hometown were there to support me and it was great because they boosted my confidence with their cheers. Besides, I am not a shy person by nature so it was a breeze”.

During the pageant she walked away with the second prize which was a clear sign she had the potential to win even without the experience the other girls had. That same year she entered Miss Green Earth and she was crowned first princess. With the confidence and a track record to back her up, she entered Face of Lepelle-Nkumpi and won. She was from that point introduced to fashion shows, which have become her forte.

Her love for helping people, especially young children, sees her regularly visit charities to do community work. She makes sure she visits at least one charity a month to help clean, cook and play with the children because she believes one does not need money to help out.

She found out about the Miss Eagle SA pageant while browsing the internet so she entered and was shortlisted. Shibe explained she entered the Miss Eagle SA pageant as it empowers women.

“It is about more than just looks, it is very educating. I started out as a finalist like everybody else and every other week we are given challenges to complete in order to make it through to the next phase of the competition. The challenges we get are ones that build you as a person and you learn a lot in the process,” she said. She is currently at brand ambassador level, and through completing more challenges she will be closer to the semi-finalist position.

After winning Miss Eagle SA, which she has no doubt she will do, she plans to enter the Miss South Africa pageant and start her own modelling agency to take in and guide new talent. Her advice to young people is to follow their heart and forget what people say. She gives thanks to her mother who is her biggest cheerleader and supports her in everything that she does.

“My mom is very supportive. That woman is something else, I just wish people could get to know her. She is very special.”
