Radio Turf’s golden voice rakes in another award

Multi award-winning radio personality at Radio Turf, Isaac Mashila, recently added another award to his collection in the form of a best radio presenter award.

POLOKWANE – This award followed a successful week of celebrating International Radio Week.

Awards Isaac has to his name include best community breakfast show which he won during the National Community Radio Week Awards organised by the Nation Community Radio Week (NCRW), National Community Radio Forum (NCRF) and the Free State provincial government.

Founder of the NCRW awards, Lebogang Choene, said the Focus Week was inspired by the lack of models and interventions which enable the community radio broadcast sector in South Africa to be sustainable, despite the fact that the sector operates from non-profit enterprises.

“Community radio has demonstrated its ability to grow year on year for the past 23 years to deliver over 8 million listeners,” Isaac told Review.

He added he was elated to receive the award as the competition was tight. He thanked his family, friends and fans on his various social media platforms for their support.

The 27-year-old postgraduate student at Unisa said this award is going to open doors for him, joking he would no longer have to kick in doors like before.

During his speech at the award ceremony in Bloemfontein, Isaac advised community radio presenters to be original.

“I’d say to just stick at it. Sometimes it can be hard to get into but just try as many different avenues as you can and eventually you’ll get there. Make sure you plan your shows, don’t delve into in-jokes too much as you need to connect with the wider audience, but mostly I’d say, just be yourself but be original,” he said.

Isaac is currently a chief producer at Radio Turf and sometimes assists radio presenters where needed. His work experience includes working as a journalist and photographer for marketing and communication at the University of Limpopo, community liaison officer for Pienaar and Erwee Electric Consultants and volunteering at Polokwane Municipality as community liaison officer for five years.
