Be the first at every ‘Main Event’ with this app

Phil Mamabolo is quite passionate about converting his dream into a reality, that he didn't think twice about quitting his job to focus on establishing a gig guide called Main Event.

POLOKWANE – “Main Event is not just an app, we do marketing, advertising, events and events management,” he shared.

Given the time needed to create an app, Phil initially focused on learning the various components of programming to secure the apps’ creation and full functionality in just a year.

“I had to try a lot of different languages until I found one that worked for me and one I was comfortable with. That is how the dream of Main Event came to fruition. It was a hard struggle because after creating it, I still had to get it into app stores. The challenge was that everything had to be done internationally. Google was quick to get it into their app store, with apple it was a bit of a struggle,” he explained.

One of the sacrifices that came with chasing his dream was the somewhat loss of his social life.

For the duration of this, he had become what one would call a loner and ultimately decided to take a leap of faith by quitting his job, leaving him without a stable income to pursue his dream.

“I had to sacrifice friendships and relationships because of the amount of time I was spending working on the app.

“The most difficult time came when I quit my job but I was never made for the 9-5 job, working for someone,” he shared.

Although he didn’t have a back-up plan, he was quite adamant that he would survive as he explained that God would never give one a purpose if He would not sustain you through it.

He also explained that he took the risk because he wasn’t created to live and die, but wanted to leave behind a legacy and carve his name in history.

Due to the loss of income, he has to find alternative ways in which to raise money which led to his infiltration of the Polokwane social event circuit.

He started organising events such as Project X and the Westenburg Family Day which will now be an annual event. Phil now hopes to secure funding for the family day, which hosts children from Place of Safety, giving them a fun family experience.

“With the money, we can have a wider reach and give back more than the last time. We are finding out from the charities on what the kids need and are also hoping that we can meet those needs,” he added.

The Main Event App is currently available for download on the Google Play as well as on iTtunes. For more information or to get involved, contact him at 083 212 8512, find him on Facebook as maineventsa and on Instagram and Twitter at maineventmobi.
