Local youth activist, Koketso Marishane was recently chosen to participate in the Emerging African Leaders Programme 2018 offered by the University of Cape Town (UCT) Graduate School of Development Policy and Practice from 11 to 23 March.
The programme accommodates 25 to 35-year-olds from any one of ten African countries including South Africa. Participants need to display high leadership potential, personal integrity and commitment to public service in their field.
The programme aims to continue to build a group of innovative and courageous individuals committed to development for the sake of bringing about change in their sphere of influence.
Marishane currently serves as Youth Ambassador in the Office of the Presidency. Biographics of the 30 elected participants released by UCT refer to Marishane’s vast experience in social development and the international accolades he has received.
Marishane deems his role as one that carries a responsibility to his peers and to the entire younger generation from the United Nations Member States to give impetus to the importance of a generational mix, and the importance of placing young people in positions of responsibility. The list of his achievements speaks for itself. He is, among others, the founder of Marishane Youth Development Forum, a youth platform that curates development content in GaMarishane.
