Seven days of Valentine’s

Each day in the week leading up to Valentine's Day holds significant meaning with specific gifts set to be presented to loved ones.

POLOKWANE –  You can opt to go the traditional route or come up with more creative ways to spoil your significant other on these days.

Guarantee they keep thinking of you by sending them a bouquet of roses that will remain on their desk/ on their bedside table long after Valentine’s Day.

Rose Day: Wednesday 7 February

Whether you say it with a bouquet or a single flower, you can let your loved one know how you feel about them on this day with a rose as it represents love in the most delicate form.

Tips for the day:

• A card made with rose petals is a creative alternative to the boring old valentine’s card.

• A single full bloom red rose is for couples in long relationships.

• Giving that special someone a single thorn-less rose is a confession of love at first sight.A bouquet of thorn-less roses on the other hand, denotes tenderness and protectiveness.

Propose Day is the perfect occasion for you to make a big commitment to your significant other.

Propose Day: Thursday 8 February

Make your intentions known with a romantic proposal on propose day!

Tips for the day:

• Put together a gift basket of yummy delicacies and hide the engagement ring among the treats in the basket (in its box of course, so it doesn’t get lost).

• For a simple surprise, replace her everyday ring with the engagement ring after she goes to bed. When opens her jewllery box the next morning, she will get the surprise of a lifetime.

Giver her a sugar rush on Chocolate Day with lots of chocolates or a few of her favourite sweet treats.

Chocolate Day: Friday 9 February

Impress your significant other by surprising them with their favourite brand of chocolate – or any sweet treat – its a sure way to make hearts melt.

Tips for the day:

• Spend quality time with your loved one.Go out to a nice restaurant or prepare a special dinner and when you cuddle in front of the TV before bed, pull out a box of their favourite chocolates to have while you watch a movie.

• Chocolate covered nuts are a healthy way to satisfy your sweet tooth. They’re also incredibly easy to make and knowing you made them yourself will surely impress your loved one.

Teddy Day: Saturday 10 February

Whether you get your girl a tiny teddy to place on her pillow or a giant bear she can snuggle up to, getting her a teddy on this day will let her know she is loved and appreciated.

Tips for the day:

• Name the teddy you give to your love, it will show you put in a lot of thought into choosing just the right one for them.

• Write a note and attach it to your teddy to add a little something extra to your gift.

• Give her the biggest teddy bear you can find!

Promise Day is celebrated on 11 February.

Promise Day: Sunday 11 February

It’s easy to make promises, the real test is in your ability to deliver on all the commitments you make. On this day, you can either keep a promise you made earlier or make new ones and prove yourself to your loved one by making good on them.

Tips for the day:

• Have a discussion with your significant other. Express your concerns and hopes for the future. Ensure you know what is expected of you and what you need to do to keep the relationship strong.

Hug Day: Monday 12 February

If you love hugs, this one is for you. You get to hug the day away and you won’t have to feel guilty about crowding your loved one’s space because its a special day set aside specifically for hugs.

Tips for the day:

• Set a rule that when your significant other does something such as sneeze or pick up their cellphone, you have to hug them. • Go in for a bear hug, hug them from behind – whichever way you choose, make sure you give them a tight squeeze.

Kiss Day: Tuesday 13 February

On this day, lovers get a golden opportunity to express their love by giving their valentine a passionate kiss. Or, if she is not used to you doing it, a kiss on the forehead could mean the world to your girlfriend.

Tips for the day:

• A tender peck on the lips can be a gentle way to remind someone you love them or, if you do it on the first date, it could be a way to tell her you want to be more than just friends.

Valentine’s Day: Wednesday 14 February

Don’t wait until it’s too late to tell someone how much you love them or how much you care for them. Because when they’re gone, no matter how loud you shout and cry, they won’t hear you. And what could be better than telling that special someone exactly how much they mean to you than on St Valentine’s Day?

Tips for the day:

• Send your special someone flowers with a sweet note telling them how you feel or what you have planned for them on the day.

• If you’re married, a nice way to spend the day would be with all the elements that made your wedding day special. Replicate the cake, play the ceremony soundtrack and remind your special someone of the day you said your vows.

• If you’re going through a tough time with your girl, take the time to write a long, kind and open letter to her. It will open the floor for you to talk things over and hopefully streneghten your bond.
