Lazzy: the family man behind the beats

Inspired by his musical upbringing, Lincoln Lazarus Thobejane (35) better known as Lazzy, is now a producer, musician and recording studio owner taking the music world by storm.

POLOKWANE – “I grew up knowing that I want to be a musician. Because I know most black parents never consider music as a career, I studied information technology as my back-up career.

“When you are in the music industry, try backing up your music career with something different, just in case it doesn’t work out, because these things happen, and unfortunately it is a part of life,” he advised.

His love for music intensified when he completed matric in 2000, moving on to tertiary and being able to work on his craft on a part-time basis.

“My root music was gospel music, but I had to go for all genres because of the industry I’m into, so I started recording all kinds of music in my studio, catering for different artists. I have worked with many artists such as Sebasa Mogale from Thobela FM, Mahlatse Vocal, Sido and Manana, Muzo Brothers, Patience Ntuli, Dr Tumi and Mopedy. I’ve worked with amazing artists,” he explained.

Apart from the varied traits that Lazzy has, the L.A Muzo Production owner is also a photographer.

On the production side of his craft, he has worked with a number of producers across the country to create a large quantity of soulful music.

“The music industry is not an easy place to be in, you need to have skills, be unique, have knowledge and an ear for music, talent will be an added bonus to your music technique list. I encourage artists to learn and do more research on the music industry before getting into it,” he added.

When he isn’t too busy working with artists, Lazzy spends his time with family as he views this as one of his top priorities.

“I also enjoy watching movies and swimming just to refresh from the music environment,” he added.
