Rotarians greet Sister Fides

The Rotary Club of Polokwane hosted its year-end meeting at the Polokwane Bowls Club on Monday evening and also took the opportunity to say farewell to Sr Fides Sperling, Principal of Vrederust Independent School at Siloe Centre for the Blind,
Sperling hails from Poland and joined Siloe in 2002. She was apointed as principal of Vrederust Independent School in 2008, working with deaf and blind children. In 2009 she expanded the school to provide for the integration of both blind and sighted pupils at secondary level. Her greatest achievement at Siloe was the establishment of a music school during 2010.
“Blind children are hungry for education and it is such a pleasure to work with them because they are always open for something new,” she said.
Sperling will soon travel to Poland for a holiday and plans to establish a new facility for the blind either in Limpopo or Mpumalanga on her return.
The Rotary Club of Polokwane is a sponsor of Siloe Centre for the Blind and Sperling said it had been a pleasure to work with the Rotarians.
“I could knock on their doors any time of the day or the night and they were always there to support,” she concluded.
