PEPPS College Grade 10 learner Juliette Harris was scheduled to depart for Lille in Southern France yesterday (Wednesday) as the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100’s short-term exchange student.
In France, Juliette will be hosted by the Hemon family and is expected to return home on 11 January next year. She will take part in the activities of the Rotary Club of Lille and attend Auriane’s School in the city. “Auriane’s School is an international school and will give me an even better opportunity to learn more about other cultures. We speak English and Dutch at home and I look forward to learn some of the French language and expand my vocabulary,” she said.
“Experiencing the day-to-day life in a French household creates an opportunity to truly understand the French culture and it is the best environment where to learn the language,” Juliette reckoned.
Juliette said she was very grateful for the opportunity but that the excursion will only be too short.
At the meeting of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 last Thursday evening, Past District Governor of Rotary District 9400 Grant Daly wished Juliette a safe trip and presented her with a banner of Rotary District 9400 to exchange with the French.
