Local musicians from the province will be rewarded for their hard work and contribution to the music industry at the inaugural Limpopo Music Awards set for Meropa Casino & Entertainment World on 11 November.
Fortune Maswanganyi, organiser of the event the said with the awards they want to bring Limpopo artists under one roof, develop talent and promote excellence. “We conceptualised the event with the aim of recognising excellence in the music industry. There are plenty of artists from the province who are doing well and are not getting the recognition they deserve. This is a flagship project and we want to grow the status associated with these awards much like the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) and the Loerie Awards,” Maswanganyi said.
A total of 21 categories are to be rewarded and will accommodate changes in music styles and changes in popularity of already existing genres. These genres include Traditional, Afrikaans, Gospel, Jazz, Kwaito, Rap, RnB and Soul.
