Dynamic house duo bring the house down

Newly signed 4Billion Records artists, Karabo K'zela Mathetja and Tshepo Stylish DJ Kgasago are house music producers who have lost count of their South African performances.

POLOKWANE – The duo, who have also performed at the annual Oppikoppi Music Festival, are currently based in Mankweng in Turfloop.

“We have one album which was released in 2016 by BGMP Records and we dropped two EP’s with DNH (Canada), one EP with South Africa’s deep housing leading record label House Afrika.

“Our tracks have been compiled on various compilations such as 4 BR Dance 1, T-Deep’s Fundamentals of House 2 and Aluku Records’ Various Compilation (UK). Our new song compiled and released under 4Billion Records, K’zela & Stylish DJ ft. Dindy – Queen, is doing well on radio and TV, Thobela FM, Metro FM, Radio Turf, Mohodi FM, just to mention a few, are all showing us love,” Tshepo explained. The music video has also aired on Channel O.

The two, who started their music careers at the age of 16, collaborated as students at the University of Limpopo and has had their music released by acclaimed record labels such as Nick Holder’s DNH Records (Canada, Toronto), Gallo Records, BGMP, House Afrika and Aluku Records (UK).

Their first double disc titled The Greatest Duo was nominated for best dance duo album at the F.A.M.E Awards 2016, and has been receiving positive feedback ever since.

Karabo, who is also a mining scientist, grew up in Ga-Semenya, a village outside Polokwane. He attended Wingfield Primary School and then proceeded to Northern Academy High School and later completed his matric at the Florapark Comprehensive High School in 2007. “Moving to different schools was a way for me to adapt to different lifestyles as I went from a rural school to an urban school,” he explained. Karabo, in the following year, enrolled for a bachelor of science degree, focusing on molecular and life science at the University of Limpopo.

Tshepo, a communication studies lecturer at the University of Limpopo, grew up in Ga-Mathabatha, a village right outside Polokwane. He attended Dikgeu Primary School and Boredi English Medium Primary School, and later proceeded to Mashianyane High School where he matriculated in 2009. He obtained his communication studies degree at the University of Limpopo in 2012, his honours degree in 2013 and lastly his communication studies masters degree in 2016.

The two are currently resident DJ’s on the national radio station, Munghana Lonene FM as well as the community radio station, Radio Turf.

These two have worked alongside Da Capo, Aries Aquarius (Germany), Lyrik Shoxen, Dindy, Manana, Riba, Dj Phonetic and Bhizori, amongst others.
