DJ AbzaSA rocks the decks

Botlokwa-born DJ, Abel Rasekhula (21), better known as DJ AbzaSA is spinning his way to the top.

POLOKWANE – The emerging star from the rural heart of Sekhokho village is making waves in the entertainment industry. His debut album titled Self Discovery, which was released in 2016, showcases most of his initial work and was followed by Extended Play (EP) Mumbling Priest.

He is currently promoting his latest single Udlisi Team which was released this month.

DJ AbzaSA fell in love with music at an early age when he started to pursue this God-given talent at the age of 14 when he began to produce house music.

As a starting point he produced a song titled I never listened with Wendiey as the featured vocalist, which was an immediate hit and remains a popular track today.

Although that was the beginning of his music career, he worked hard to make the necessary impact in this fully integrated music business to grab the attention of Rawgland Entertainment which he later joined as a producer and record remixer.

“I grew up surrounded by people who love music. At home there was a tuck shop where I used to play music for people and it is here where I discovered my love for music. At the age of 15 I was fortunate enough to have a computer and my production career took off. My music career began in 2016 with the release of my 12-track album Self Discovery,” said Rasekhula

“I’ve been motivated by the idea of trying to help others like me being in the industry and correct people’s perceptions about music and what it means to be part of this industry. I grew up listening to DJ Msiza from Botlokwa FM and I’ve learnt so much from him in terms of music.” The 21-year-old said he believes in his music but some of the challenges he has come across is the lack of support from the people he knows as they expect free songs. “At first my family wasn’t very supportive of my dreams to have a music career and threatened to take my computer away. I kept on producing music, however, and I took my computer to my uncle’s house where I continued producing music. At the end of the day they came to the realisation that music is my life,” he explained. He told BONUS being a DJ, even though some people only view it as a hobby, is something he takes as being a gift from God. “My goal is to be successful in the music industry in the sense that everyone could recognise the good work I do. I also want to motivate others to pursue their dreams and work hard to reach their goals.”
