‘Ntsiki’ set to shine among top Limpopo musicians

Ntshikiwane Sophy Raphesu is a 34-year-old afro soul artist from Solomondale, outside Mankweng.

LIMPOPO – She said she discovered her singing talent and love for the entertainment industry when she was only 7-years-old.  “I grew up in a very musical home and have loved music from a very young age, but only discovered my singing talent in high school when I auditioned for choir and got in,” she explained.

Growing up “ntsiki” said that she was inspired by music from music legends such as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, George Michael, and Anita Baker to name a few.

She writes her own music and says she bases her lyrics on phenomenons that occur daily in life and love. “My songs are mainly about love and the ups and downs of life, and overcoming tough times,” she said.

This self taught guitarist spoke to Review about her recent music nominations for the Limpopo Music Awards. Ntsiki is nominated for best jazz album and best African pop single.

“It feels good for my work and music  to be recognised by my province. I feel honoured, even though I do not create music for awards,  it’s always great when you are rewarded for your hard work,” she said excited.

“As much as I sing about the trials and hardships of life,  I always end each song off on a positive note. I believe that the words you speak or in my case, sing, come to life. So I sing about the positive and brighter side of life,” she concluded.
