Guitar player soothes the body and soul

Acoustic guitar player, Mohlahlo Kgopotso Brian, is passionate about music and he plans to chase after his dreams of pursuing a career in the music and entertainment industry.

POLOKWANE – From Phokoane village in Sekhukhune, this talented young artist takes inspiration from local jazz artists Jimmy Dludlu and Oliva Mtukuzi.

“I started playing the acoustic guitar when I was in primary school in 2009 and this passion stayed with me throughout my high school career. I am part of a poetry music band called Harmonic_Vibes which comprises four talented members who sing and perform unplugged music,” he said.

The 21-year-old is currently studying nursing at the Limpopo College of Nursing because he says growing up he always wanted to be part of the healthcare industry as he wanted to make people feel better physically as well as soothing their souls through music.

“I know music heals emotional pains as it speaks to one’s soul and helps one to get back to their senses and become calm. Being a nurse I will be able to help people recover from physical injuries as well,” he explained.

Mohlalo added although he got assistance from a charity project called Music for Africa, led by Mathew Matebane, he is a self-taught, part-time instrumental composer.

“As a music composer I usually listen to the vocalist and then come up with the melody which would best suit the vocalist. I coordinate the pitch, rhythm and tempo of the vocalist with the instrument.”
