Anchoring the Energy Drive’s news

This week we chat with Energy Drive News Anchor, Rebecca Phala.

POLOKWANE – BONUS and Energy FM gives readers and listeners the opportunity to get to know their favourite presenters better by asking them a series of questions each week.

Why don’t you love seafood? Ellen Chauke from Seshego.

“Hahaha, I just think seafood is not nice.”

What is your nickname, the one your granny used to call you? Kgolofelo Mookamedi.

“Hi Kgolofelo, my granny used to call me Lalla Boroka because I was a bit of an introvert who slept a lot during the day while others were out playing.”

Who do you look up to, who is that person that inspires you to be great? Nkele Lebelo from Seshego.

“Hi Nkele, I am inspired by two amazing people, Anet and Andreas Phala my parents, they both have the most inspiring rags to riches story. They have had the hardest upbringing yet they turned out extremely well-established in their crafts. All I ever want to be in life is to be as great and humble as my parents. They have taught me that if push comes to shove I should resort to slavery for a reasonable reward.”

What would you do if you won R14 million? John Mokibelo from Luthuli Park.

“I would find one young woman from Ga-Mamabolo, my home village, and pay for her university fees, buy a pink Mini Cooper with car lashes and if there’s any money left I will invest the rest into property.”

What can I do to be Rebecca’s close friend? Anonymous from Solomondale.

“Hi, all you have to do is be good company and know what’s happening in the world really. My close friends and I spend most of our time debating everything from current affairs to gender equality and pop culture.”

For the past 23 years do you think much has been done for South Africans from the previous Apartheid government that saw black Africans living in poor conditions? Which part do you think much was not done? From anonymous.

“I think the transformation process in our country is rather slow but the government has played its part, especially with regards to political freedom and rights such as freedom of speech. Also we have a hope to restore an independent judiciary. I do, however, think given the ever-spreading acts of violence against women and members of the LGBTQI community, the government should harness social protection of both the previously marginalised groups of our citizens.”

I understand you like reading books, which one are you currently reading? Justice Ngoepe from Moletjie Motinti.

“I am currently reading Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus and Pumla Dineo Gqola’s RAPE: A South African Nightmare.

Chiefs or Pirates? Justice Ngoepe from Moletjie Motinti.

“None, I am not a populist lol, I support Platinum Stars.”
