LIMA to unearth talent: vote for your favourite NOW

The new kid on the block, the Limpopo Music Awards (Lima) was launched on Friday, 15 September at the Polokwane Royal Hotel.

POLOKWANE – According to Mahlasedi Media and Communications Managing Director, Fortune DJ Cappuccino Maswanganyi, this is the beginning of something musicians will one day remember with fondness and pride as being a part of its launch.

“The spin-off doesn’t go to us as organiser of Lima but is going to artists down in the villages, far away from the cities. Those are the development we are looking for. I’ve been advocating that the government doesn’t owe us anything and we have the power to make the change we want to see,” Maswanganyi said.

He said the vision of Lima is to broaden music horizons at regional and provincial level to overcome all borders. “We want to see our artists making moves outside the province. The music industry is a multi-million rand industry and many believe if you want to break into the industry you have to go to Gauteng. We want to stop these misconceptions and start by giving the artists in Limpopo the chance to shine and become a part of these great initiatives.”

He told BONUS the aim of Lima is to transform the image of the music industry. “The most important thing is the Limpopo Music Awards are sponsored by local business people. We want to be the most prestigious music awards in the SADEC Region by artists, sponsors and music lovers. We want to transform the image of the music industry through these awards. The driving force behind this idea was the drive to develop and expose art in the province, especially music. We want to give local artists the chance to shine on stage. Our future plans include forming a collaboration between different cultures. We want to discover the talent in our own musicians, we want to bring the talents from the villages and showcase them here in the city,” he concluded.
